Alan was the 'nice person' that everyone hopes they will know in their lifetime. He had a real heart
for others and a true love of family.
He grew up in the terraced housing of Liverpool street and then on to the Ellor street estate when
the slum clearance moved whole communities.
He was a clever accademic achieving a good harvest of qualifications from Salford Grammar Technical
school and immediately joined the Royal Navy. He left when our Father died to look after our Mother
and he lived with her until the sea again called him away some years later to the Merchant Navy. He
returned again in his late twenties and again moved in with Mum.
He made and re-made many friends in Salford, always becoming the centre of social activity and
enjoying life to the full.
He never married or had children but maintained a love of his family and in many ways provided a
Father figure for his nephews and a ready ear for anyone who needed help or a friendly shoulder.
He was looking forward to opening a new chapter in his life and moving into a new career in
technology when tragedy took him from us in a brutal accident on his last shift in that employ.
The pain and shock has never left us and the unfairness leaves deep scars on all of us.
He is always talked fondly of by everyone who's life he touched and his memory is one of warmth and
light.
He never saw my two children who were both born after his death but my Son was born on Alan's
birthday 21st March so it didn't take long to decide that there was going to be another Alan
Doherty, the third after our Father also being called Alan.
I am proud to say he was my Brother.

School Days
Hi there, I dont really remember Alan as a grown man, only have my school memories from West Liverpool Street School. I used to see him from time to time as children playing. Alan lived on Almond Closed, we, (McQueeney's), lived on Sorbus. I have some fond memories of Alan, and as Lucy commented on an earlier tribute, had a lot of laughs. He was a lovely little boy, and sounds like he grew up to be a lovely man. I am still in touch with a distant cousin of yours, Belinda Leigh, also from Sorbus Close.
Rest in Peace Alan.

Hiya huni
I re-connected with your brother Tony quite a few years ago through Friends Reunited, and we kept in touch for quite a few years - sending each other lots of Jokes and stuff. One time when we were chatting we discovered that your lovely Mum went to school with my darling Mum in Law! How strange is that!!! My MIL remembered being in school with your Mum!
I know that you are watching over your beloved family and that you are always in their thoughts.
I think of you often - and giggle when I think about our days in junior school...and the fun times we had during the school holidays!!
Love ya babes xxxx
We were friends at junior school, along with Mark Platt and Jane McQueeney. We always played together on the "Red Rec" after school. We had lots of giggles together.
I was so sad of hear of his passing.
Alan, your family are in my thoughts.
I'm sure that you are watching over them all. Rest in peace my friend.
Love & light
